What does it cost to study?
There are no tuition fees in Germany! A "semester fee" of about 300 € is charged per semester. However, this includes a ticket for local public transport, the so-called Deutschland-Ticket. This means that you can use buses and trains free of charge within Germany. Due to these new regulations, it is no longer possible to take an additional person or bicycles with you .
How do I organize my studies?
You have to organize your studies yourself. There is a recommendation as to how many courses you should take per semester in order to complete your studies in the standard period of study, if possible. It is up to you to decide which courses you will ultimately take. Once you have attended a lecture, you are not obliged to take the exam. There are no fees for course selection or registration for re-sit exams.
Which language do I need to know?
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offers numerous courses in English. There is even an international Master's program completely in English.
Please note: For everyday life in Germany, part-time jobs and integration on campus and with your fellow students, a basic knowledge of German is important. Especially when dealing with authorities, German language skills are an advantage!
How can I network?
The International Office regularly offers (inter)cultural events where you can get to know fellow students. Furthermore, the ESN Dortmund is a good place to find new contacts, friends or travel companions.
