The professor of “IT in Production and Logistics” passed away on August 22 at the age of 64 after an illness.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering mourns the loss of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Rabe, who was Professor of IT in Production and Logistics at TU Dortmund University for many years.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Rabe was born in Tübingen in 1961. He studied physics in Constance and completed his doctorate on the subject of "Modeling layout and control rules for material flow simulation" at TU Berlin.

In Berlin, he had been at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK) since 1986, where he was initially in the Manufacturing Systems department and from 1995 head of the Corporate Logistics and Processes department, then also head of central IT at the Fraunhofer IPK and a member of the institute's management board.

Markus Rabe has been Professor of IT in Production and Logistics at TU Dortmund University since October 2010. He was a pioneer in the field of simulation-based production planning and a bridge builder between theory and practice. His research shaped industrial logistics far beyond the borders of Germany. With his deep understanding of complex systems and his ability to combine technical challenges with strategic vision, he set standards in the academic world.

His loss leaves a huge gap - both professionally and personally.

Our sincere condolences go out to his family and loved ones.
