From April 25 to 27, 2024, the "4th International Conference on Vulnerability and Risk Analysis and Management (ICVRAM2024)" & "8th International Symposium on Uncertainty Modelling and Analysis (ISUMA2024)" was organized by Tongji University in China. The event was sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and received over 280 abstracts from scientists and professionals from around the world. The conference provided a multidisciplinary forum focused on quantifying, mitigating and managing risk and uncertainty in decision-making processes. The event covered a range of topics from risk assessment and management of critical infrastructure projects to AI-powered and data-driven approaches to risk and uncertainty quantification.

The Chair of Reliability Engineering (CRE) at TU Dortmund University took part in this three-day event with a large delegation. As a highlight of the event, our colleague Mauricio Misraji Lagos was honored with the "First Class Student Award" for one of the best conference papers submitted by a PhD student. The article was selected by an independent jury based on the submitted work as well as his performance in the presentation sessions. In his article "First Excursion Probability Sensitivity by means of Multidomain Line Sampling", Mauricio explores the challenging topic of performing sensitivity analysis on the probability of failure of complex structures under dynamic loads. This information is crucial for improving reliability engineering designs, risk assessments and decision making under uncertainty. We are delighted with the appreciation of his work and see this as motivation to continue to conduct outstanding research in the future.
