Prof. Matthias Faes, Chair of Reliability Engineering, is the recipient of the 2026 ECCOMAS O. C. Zienkiewicz Award.
The O.C. Zienkiewicz Prize, awarded by the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS), recognizes outstanding contributions by researchers under the age of 40 in Computational Engineering Sciences.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at TU Dortmund University is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Matthias Faes has received this year’s prize.

Presented every two years at the ECCOMAS Congress, the Zienkiewicz Award is one of ECCOMAS’s two Young Investigator Awards (next to the Jacques Louis Lions Award) and recognizes outstanding contributions to Computational Engineering Sciences. Candidates are nominated by members of the ECCOMAS community, while the recipients are selected by an independent awards committee. The 2026 award was presented during the opening session of the WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026 Congress in Munich on 20 July 2026.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering warmly congratulates Prof. Faes on this outstanding achievement and the international recognition of his contributions to computational engineering research.
