Information on Examinations

Towards the end of the semester, the examination phase is approaching - exam dates are announced and presentations and submissions are also due in your seminars. It is also time to prepare for your return to your home university if you are not staying at TU Dortmund University for another semester. We have compiled important information on examinations for you on this page.

Please note:

The examination period of the department begins after the end of the lecture period. Examination dates can take place until the official end of the semester (winter: 01.10.-31.03, summer: 01.04-30.09).

Students must register for examinations at least two weeks before the examination date. After this deadline, participation in the examination can no longer be guaranteed.

For examinations at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, an email to the lecturer (with your name, matriculation number, the name of the course and the examination date) is usually sufficient. However, please ask the lecturer how you should register.

You can register with the Department of Economics using the form on this page. Further information on examinations at the Faculty of Business and Economics can be found here.

Other Examinations

  • Presentations and written assignments in seminars and in some lectures: You will be informed by the lecturers about the procedure and dates.
  • Examinations for courses offered by other departments or at Ruhr-Universität Bochum or the University of Duisburg-Essen : Please contact your lecturers to ask how to register for the exam.

Examination Dates

Some courses offer two examination dates per semester. This means that if you do not pass the exam the first time, you can take it again on the second date.

However, there are also courses that only have one exam date. In this case, you can only retake the exam in the new semester.

We are aware that the German examination period overlaps with the semester periods of other universities in Europe and overseas. If you have any concerns or problems, please contact us, the Erasmus Coordination of the department. In individual cases, you can discuss with the lecturers whether an alternative form of examination and an alternative examination day can be arranged. However, this is at the discretion of the examiners.

You can find the official examination dates here.

If you have any questions, please contact the Erasmus Coordination Office.

Deregistering from Exams

If you do not wish to take an examination for which you have registered, you should cancel your registration. This is possible without giving reasons up to the day before a written examination and one week before an oral examination.

To do this, write directly to the lecturer in question. In the e-mail, you should state your name, your matriculation number and the examination for which you wish to withdraw.

Exam Results

Let your lecturers know that they will send the exam results to the Erasmus Coordination of the department. You will receive your exam results by email. The procedure is usually similar for the results of oral examinations, seminars or examinations from other departments.

Your results will be transferred directly to your Transcript of Records in the Erasmus Coordination Office. If you come from another department, your results will be forwarded to the Erasmus Coordination of that department.

Once all your results have been submitted to the Erasmus Coordination of the department, your Transcript of Records will be created and then sent to you and your home university.
