As part of this project, the Chair of Corporate Logistics (LFO) organized a workshop day together with the Chair of Materials Handling and Warehousing (FLW) and the support of the mentors.
In this workshop, girls aged 12 to 14 immersed themselves in the fascinating world of logistics together with their student mentors. After a brief introduction to the department and the areas of mechanical engineering and logistics, the schoolgirls were able to experience an impressive live show.
The focus was on innovative technologies such as 3D printing, drones, and mobile robots—precisely the topics that scientists at the LFO and FLW are researching. Controlling the drones independently was a very special experience for the girls. Through interactive games, the students learned about the various areas of logistics and global supply chains in a playful way and were able to creatively apply their newly acquired knowledge with the help of Lego bricks.
The organizers of the workshop had a lot of fun introducing the girls to the world of logistics and mechanical engineering - playfully, practically and with a lot of curiosity on both sides!
MinTU stands for "Girls into TU Dortmund University" and that is also the aim of the project.
The mentoring project offers around 50 schoolgirls between the ages of 12 and 14 the opportunity to get to know TU Dortmund University and its STEM departments. For one year, they take part in workshops in the STEM departments and meet with their mentor and other girls in their mentoring group. Girls from all types of schools in Dortmund and the surrounding area who are interested in studying can take part.
