From 4-8 July 2022, the focus will be on "How To: The New Supply Chain Management - Digital, Resilient, Sustainable Supply Networks". The Summer School is explicitly aimed at doctoral students and teaches scientific methods as well as the use and potential of the latest technologies. A live case study will be offered for an immediate transfer from science to practice.

The current crises and the war in Ukraine have shown how vulnerable our supply chains are. A new, resilient, flexible and sustainable supply chain management is needed - and even more, a comprehensive supply chain strategy. A big task that is very complex. That is why we are tackling it together with top-class scientists and doctoral students from all over the world and are shaping the SCM of the future together and compactly in one week at the Fraunhofer IML in Dortmund.

In terms of new supply chains, transparency plays a major role. This requires large amounts of data, which are processed with the help of statistical analysis methods. Simulations and digital twins help to set up forecasts, if-then scenarios and real-time analysis of new crises. In the new global and regional supply chains, everything is built on diversification of partners. But these can only come together via platforms, and blockchain technology supports certification, payment processes and end-to-end transparency across the entire supply chain. To then actually get into implementation, open source - barrier-free, neutral and customisable software and hardware components are needed. The agenda for this year's Summer School is based on this structured approach to building new value chains.

Following the concept of the Graduate School of Logistics, the theoretical knowledge will be tested directly on a concrete example from practice. In the live case study, four interdisciplinary teams will each develop a solution concept based on supply chain data from a company. We are pleased to have been able to win the Open Logistics Foundation as a cooperation partner. In addition to the replanning of a supply chain, the focus will also be on the question of which open source components will be needed in the future so that company networks can design their supply chains in a resilient and sustainable manner. The best team will receive an award during the Summer School. The other teams will not go away empty-handed, however, and will receive a consolation prize.

Besides the main programme, there is also plenty of time for networking. A comprehensive PhD network is indispensable during the doctorate. Participants can find sparring partners, get to know possible co-authors for papers and journal contributions and discuss their own dissertation topic.

The participation fee includes all the above programme points, including get-together and conference dinner. The dinner will take place in the city centre of Dortmund. Hotel recommendations for overnight stays are available on the website and travel directions are also described.  Host of the event is Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Henke, Spokesman of the Executive Board of the Graduate School of Logistics, holder of the Chair of Corporate Logistics at TU Dortmund University and Institute Director at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML.
